Getting good ideas from crises
Wow, what a surprise!
Something as negative as the COVID crisis gave rise to a good idea. What was it?
I think that there are two types of crises in life the crises we create ourselves.
And the ones we find along the way.The COVID crisis was something we encountered along the way.
The most important crisis a company can face is not the COVID crisis.
It's the crisis of not selling. And that kind of crisis depends on oneself.
In life, we always have a margin for error.Whether you have a very small or very large margin of error, when a crisis like COVID hits, it's going to affect you in one way or another.
Reducing that margin of error. When you are faced with a situation like COVID,what you gain is that you come out stronger.
In the case of Wellhub, we started COVID as a platform offering unlimited access to gyms for a B2B environment.
And it was precisely at that moment when all the gyms were closed,We developed online personal trainers so that people could exercise, exercises at home whenever and however they wanted.
Unfortunately, many people went through crises. Not related to physical well-being, but rather to emotional well-being.
So what does it matter if you can play sports for eight hours a day if you're at home and unable to sleep?
If you don't eat well, you won't sleep well.If you don't sleep well, you won't be able to work out the next day because you'll be too tired.
And if you're tired, how are you going to perform well at work or in your personal life?
And that's kind of the point. If we think about other successful companies, many of them started at times that there was some kind of crisis in the places where they were born.
What greater motivation could we have that to have to evolve when we are outside of our comfort zone?
And that is what happens in crises. No one is in that comfort zone.
Everyone has to give their best and when you give your best, extraordinary ideas emerge.
An analogy comes to mind in these times of crisis.specifically in COVID.
I imagine a group of cyclists, all trying to reach their goals, but I think the finance team, especially during COVID,would be the one to pull the team forward. Am I wrong?
No? I completely agree. If we think back to the COVID era, there were two teams that had to lead the way.
First, Human Resources, because they were really at an extraordinary point, and the second is finance.
Because when you enter a crisis, the first thing you have to understand is whether there is a way out of the crisis.
That's much more at the level of product, service, etc.
But then it's how long am I going to need to get out of this crisis.
If we talk about crises that are not caused by external factors, but much more by internal ones, the fundamental leader here, is finance.
They're the ones who knows how much money there might be.
Where can we invest, and what will give us the best results?
And there is also something very important, which is creativity.
For me, creativity has a lot to do with visualizing and seeing how, in moments of crisis, how certain financial factors may affect the business model.
There are many times when it is because of the small details t that we let great ideas escape.
When a company is new or in crisis, the objectives change, and equally, that objective has to be the same, which is to survive.
Many times, people start a business without considering whether they have enough money to last 24 months.24 months gives you two annual cycles, which helps you understand if what you are doing can really add value the next five years.
